His parents are John Henry Smith and Sarah Farr. His father and grandfather, George A. Smith were both counselors to Church presidents.
He married Lucy Emily Woodruff on May 25th, 1892. They are the parents of three children.
He worked at the Federal Land Office for Utah before his call.
He was plagued with poor health for much of his life. He was always going to California, Hawaii or Southern Utah to improve his health.
